New book of short stories: She Had a Very Inconvenient Heart

"She had a very inconvenient heart. It always insisted on feeling things ever so deeply."

She Had a Very Inconvenient Heart: A Tale of Love and Magic.
Available in Kindle ebook format. Read on your phone, computer, tablet, or iPad.
The paperback edition is also now available.

"Once upon a time, there lived a woman afflicted by a heart which felt things far too deeply."
Thus begins the tale of Cardia, an empath longing to be free from emotional pain. Her desperate quest for relief leads to a talking raven, the mysterious Collector of unborn dreams, and an unsavory surgeon with a magical knife. At last, she finds peace. But when she meets Vatis—a traveling troubadour who falls deeply for her—will Cardia be doomed to forever regret her desperate decision or will love triumph over every obstacle?

Poet John Mark Green has penned a moving story that explores the extremes the human heart can drive us to—a modern fairy tale for all who dare to believe in love and magic.

Also includes the following bonus content:

If the Stars Should Ever Die (story)
Lovers face the end of the world together when a mysterious force begins killing the stars and devouring all light in the universe.

Leaves from Another World (story)
Jasper Renard has always wanted to be a writer but lacks the ability. Then he discovers a portal that leads to a world where he can steal beautiful poems and pass them off as his own, becoming an overnight literary success. But now, his publisher and fans want more . . .

I'd love to write you a custom wedding poem for your special day.  I can create a unique personalized poem based on the information you provide me with. It's always fun to weave the personal details people send me into lines of poetry.  If you are looking for a unique wedding gift for someone special in your life, a custom poem is a wonderful choice. A personalized wedding poem is something to be treasured for years to come, and I look forward to creating something wonderful for you.  When I write a custom poem, I put in the same level of care and craftsmanship that I do when writing my own poems. I also provide an opportunity for you to give me feedback on the draft before I finalize your poem. My goal is to create a beautiful and memorable keepsake for this special occasion.

Poetry book Taste the Wild Wonder by John Mark Green - Editorial Reviews

Here are some editorial reviews of Taste the Wild Wonder:

"John Mark Green writes with soul and weaves poetry from love and bones and fire. His new book is art and includes illustrations that complement the words beautifully."
Jacob Nordby, author of Blessed Are the Weird - A Manifesto for Creatives

"I make my living, in large part, working on science documentaries like "Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey" and "Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman." As such, John's poetry, and the celestial muse that inspires and infuses it, speaks to me at an almost cellular level. His words, enhanced by Beth Little's whimsical art, are about the profound improbability of our existence, the majesty of a cosmos seeing itself through dumbstruck human eyes, the phosphorescent beauty of everyday nature, our infinite smallness in the face of a plumbless universe, and the bittersweet acknowledgment that one day our eyes must forever close to this majestic ballet."
Brandon Fibbs, Factual Producer
Segment writer/producer at Through the Wormhole With Morgan Freeman
Research Coordinator at Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey

"Taste The Wild Wonder has delighted my heart with its poetic wisdom and awe-inspiring imagery. It was a joy to read, a shooting star across the sky of those who are looking to heal, to grow, and to find the light and the hope in their lives again.
(A Better Today Media book review)
Liz Newman, author of Hope Between Heartbeats

"Taste the Wild Wonder is a rare collection of elegant observations of the eternal that doesn't get too puffed up in itself in the process. The poems contain a series of "short, sharp shocks" of recognition that are worth reading and re-reading. Some lines, like "Night is a shameless voyeur," remain long in my memory."

Poetry Book Release: Taste the Wild Wonder by John Mark Green

I'm happy to announce the release of my first book. Taste the Wonder is a collection of 71 of my poems, along with 11 amazing illustrations by artist Beth Little.

  • Taste the Wild Wonder is a book which explores the miracle of our existence, in a world which brings both joy and pain. It asks how we should live, when time, and everything we love is quietly slipping through our fingers. I believe it will challenge you to see the world through fresh eyes; awake and awestruck. It is a call to feel deeply, and connect with your truest self. I hope you will join me on this journey.

  • In Taste the Wild Wonder, I take the reader deeper than I can with a lot of my online poetry. There are some lengthier poems, and I put a lot of thought into the order and flow of the poems so that in reading the book, the individual poems combine to create a larger effect, taking the reader on a transformative journey. I don't want this to be just another collection of poems sitting on your shelf. I want you to be changed in subtle ways, after reading it.

Taste the Wild Wonder is available from Amazon in both paperback and Kindle formats.

She had a very inconvenient heart - empath quote by John Mark Green

Hi, and welcome to the first post on my blog. Thanks for dropping by.

My "Inconvenient Heart" quote has struck a chord with many, and as a result it has been shared numerous times. Exploring the joys and sorrows of the heart is what got me into writing poetry in the first place, and the collection of poetry and stories which I am finishing work on is called Tales of an Inconvenient Heart. Central to the book is a story in which a woman is so vexed by feeling things too deeply, that she goes to extreme lengths to rid herself of her troublesome heart.

In my Etsy shop, the quote is available as this color print, or in a black-and-white version.
